The Pelvic Radiation Disease Association (PRDA)


The PRDA works to ensure that pelvic radiation disease (PRD), a late effect of radiotherapy treatment affecting at least 8,500 new patients each year, is recognized as a distinct illness. We speak at national and regional conferences and meetings, representing and promoting the interests of patients. The charity is also represented on various national bodies set up to highlight the interests of patients suffering late effects of pelvic radiotherapy. We have successfully run a training course for helpline operators from a number of major cancer charities. We are currently developing a database of specialists and treatment centres who want to help patients with pelvic radiation disease.

The Radiotherapy Board provides guidance, oversight and support for the continuing development of high-quality radiotherapy services for cancer patients in the UK. Established in 2013 by The Royal College of Radiologists, the Society and College of Radiographers, and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, it has representation from the four UK nations and from other organisations involved in radiotherapy services. The Board’s priorities are workforce (advising on requirements for a trained, skilled and flexible, multi-disciplinary radiotherapy workforce), guidance (to underpin high standards of radiotherapy services) and equipment (promoting the need for sufficient radiotherapy equipment to deliver high-quality services).
